Looking After Lace: How to Make Your Lace Lingerie Last

Delicate, elegant, and ornate are three adjectives that can be used to describe lace, however, machine-wash friendly is not one of them!

Bras shouldn’t be disposable and quality lingerie is designed to last, but not many of us know how to look after our intimates. Looking after lace isn’t hard at all, you just need to give it some extra love.

When you invest in lace lingerie, you want to look after it as best as you can. Part of this entails washing it correctly. If you really want to preserve the fabric, we recommend hand-washing your garments.

If you’ve never even attempted to wash anything by hand before, don’t worry, we’re here to teach you, not judge you.

First things first, you can use the sink or grab a shallow bucket and fill it up with warm water, unless the care label calls for cold water. Then add a small amount of non-bio laundry detergent to the water.

Soak the underwear for a few minutes and use a plunging action to wash the suds into the material. Avoid brash rubbing and rinse with cool water when finished.

Stay away from the tumble dryer and opt for air-drying your lingerie on a flat surface. Hanging your underwear to dry can cause it to stretch, and don’t even think about twisting or wringing your lingerie to remove any excess water, as this could also damage the fabric. Use a towel to gently blot instead.

Truthfully speaking, handwashing anything in the 21st century seems like more effort than it’s worth. So, if you are a firm believer in the power and convenience of laundry machines, there is still a way to enjoy clean and long-lasting lingerie.

If you want your lingerie to last, make sure to pop it in a mesh laundry bag. Put your washing machine on a delicate and cool water cycle.

Avoid overloading the washing machine and the mesh bag, as you want plenty of room to guarantee the most effective wash. To avoid dyes from transferring you should always separate your light and dark-coloured garments.

At the end of the day, lace lingerie is a triple threat: it’s timeless, comforting, and insanely versatile. Lace can be manipulated to ooze sex appeal, but it can also convey daintiness and delicacy. So, it’s no surprise that every woman has a special set of lace lingerie tucked into her underwear drawer.

When it comes to taking care of your lingerie, there are plenty of options. For optimum results, we recommend hand washing your garments. However, if you need an easy solution, you can always follow our washing machine guidelines.

If you’ve gotten to the end of this article as you still have no clue what to do, you can always take it to the dry cleaners. Whichever method you choose, lingerie is designed to be loved. Now that you know how to make it last, it should never lose its special lustre.
